SUMMER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Our volunteer positions accommodate a broad diversity of interests, skills and schedules. Below is a list of current opportunities and the shifts available. Please be sure to indicate the day, time and task you are interested in on your application.
Dog Walking:
MCHS dogs are in outdoor pens most of the day depending on weather conditions, and we strive to walk each dog two times a day. We ask that each walk last at least 30 minutes, but can be longer if desired. Before, during, and after the walk, we ask the volunteer works to socialize the dog, encourage good behaviors (like how to walk properly on a leash), and give the dog plenty attention and affection. In addition to dog handling, we ask our volunteers to scoop poop in the outdoor pens and make sure the water buckets are full. We ask that all dog walkers pitch in on the laundry when needed.
Cleaning Dog Kennels:
Mon - Sat, between 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – This position involves cleaning and sanitizing the indoor dog kennels, and setting each kennel up for the coming night with beds, blankets, towels, water, food, toys, etc.
Cleaning Cat Room:
Mon - Sat, between 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. – This position involves feeding the cats, providing fresh water, cleaning litter boxes, and sanitizing the cat room.
Cat Socializing:
Mon - Sat, between 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. – Cats lovers can engage our cats in some frisky play, exercise with toys, let them enjoy some lap time, or help with grooming. While enjoying the company of our cats we ask that you help to keep the room clean throughout the day by picking up spilled food and water on the floor. We ask that all cat socializers pitch in on the laundry if needed.
General Cleaning & Laundry:
Mon - Sat, between 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – This position involves doing dishes, laundry, sanitizing the exam rooms, cleaning the bathroom, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and taking out the garbage.
Other Opportunities:
We also have opportunities for volunteers with specialized skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, computer maintenance and more.
Adoption Events:
We frequently have events to create awareness and promote adoption of animals currently under our care. During these events we often need help with setup, greeting, handing out literature, assisting with applications, collecting donations, watching animal(s), selling t-shirts or other items, food handling in the food truck, and clean-up. Adoption events are usually scheduled for specific times on the weekends, please check with us for dates, times, and locations.
Foster Care:
Our Foster Care volunteers are so important to the dogs and cats. We need volunteers who can open their home to MCHS animals who may require special care (health reasons), are too young (kittens and puppies) or who may become too stressed to be in a shelter environment.
Fundraising & Outreach Opportunities:
None of our fundraising events would be possible without our volunteers. Whether it is our big annual fundraisers or representing MCHS at other events, we count on our volunteers to help organize, attend, spread the word, advocate, you name it! If you have experience in this area or want to get involved, please bring your unique experience to the table! We appreciate all suggestions and ideas.
Please join us to help the orphaned and helpless animals of Morgan County. Our members make a difference in so many ways: fostering animals, nurturing the young animals, and participating in fundraising events. We also rehabilitate and find homes for livestock. We are licensed and certified to take in wildlife. We are able to rehabilitate and release sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife. Our goal is to help all animals who cannot help themselves.
